Newborn photography is such a rewarding job and working with one baby is a fine skill that needs to be honed safely and correctly. Working with TWO or more babies needs even more skill, patience and safety.
When you are looking for a photographer always be sure to ask a lot of questions! You want to make sure that the person who will be handling your baby/babies is a PROFESSIONAL photographer who is insured, professional and skilled.
Will they be using an assistant? (They definitely should be!), what does their twin portfolio look like? etc. These are your miracles and you should definitely look at this as a long term investment because one day you’ll be passing these memories along to them and them to their family and so on.
Twin/multiple newborn sessions are some of my absolute favorites as I love the connection and interaction between the babies. Getting them to snuggle and pose together is beyond rewarding.
Being a mom of twins myself I always think when setting up for sessions how would I, as a twin mom, love to see my babies posed? With that there are 3-4 setups where the babies are posed together (with the help of my awesome assistant!) and then I do the babies solo as well since each one is unique and needs to have their time as well!
Sessions are setup based on a questionnaire that is sent out prior to your session. This helps me to coordinate and stylize for both babies and also stylize each solo setup as well. Think about your favorite colors and also the colors/style of your home as most of the time you’ll be displaying images in your home. Based on the colors chosen I then setup for your special session!
Twin/multiples sessions last a bit longer than a regular newborn session – I allot about 3-4 hours for these sessions as it takes more time since there are two babies to pose and feed and change. I always encourage mom and dad (and sibling/s) to take some pictures with the babies as well at the end of the session.
